We have been retained by our client company to fill a newly created role of Vice President Product Management.  This innovative edu-tech company is building innovative and timely technology solutions being used by leading colleges and universities as they adapt to changing ways students take classes.  

Job Overview:

Our client company has grown significantly.  They have built products that are responding to market changes in the higher education sector.  The company has reached a point whereby an experienced Vice President of Product Management is needed.  The selected candidate should possess a unique blend of business and technology savvy. S/he must understand the “big-picture”, and possess the drive to make that vision come to fruition. This is a highly collaborative role that interfaces with other areas of the organization.  This is a great role for an experienced Head of Product who has been in similar roles at start-ups/small companies.

Responsibilities:

You will develop a process driven Product Management function within the company.  You will have a respect for process, but know when to pivot from process when certain scenarios arise as they always do in a small company:

  • Build a data-driven, impact-focused product organization that is able to use raw data to help drive product decisions
  • Work closely with accounts and partners to articulate the capabilities of the company’s products and solicit feedback for future product direction
  • Collaborate with internal teams to provide context around product changes based on your research, experience, and conversations with the market, accounts and prospects
  • Manage the entire product/solution life cycle from strategic planning to development to release
  • Drive the success of both mature, stable products as well as new and innovative product concepts
  • Ready to oversee competitive positioning and technology assessments, and create strategic and tactical roadmaps

Requirements:

  • A bachelor's degree or master’s degree preferred
  • Experience working for SaaS based companies
  • Global perspective and experience
  • 10+ years of progressive roles covering product management and/or strategy and software development processes (SCRUM and Agile)
  • 5+ years of experience managing a team
  • Strong evidence of being an inspiring leader, and highly effective communicator willing to roll up your sleeves
  • A highly analytical approach, critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Successful track record of establishing strong internal relationships as well as with accounts, partners, and vendors
  • Ability to lead and communicate cross-functionally with engineering and other departments
  • Sense of ownership and pride in your performance and its impact on the company’s success
  • Proven track record of career success
  • Experience with a fast growing start up
